Building Communication Skills: November 4, 12, and 19
Well-known trainer Jess Gomez will instruct a three-part training from 10:00 AM to noon via Zoom each day. During this interactive training, attendees will learn key tools to communicate effectively with vineyard crews.
- November 4: The role of the supervisor – Understanding your role, point of control, elements of leadership, and favoritism
- November 12: Communication – Receiving and preparing new employees for success
- November 19: Communicating expectations – Training, giving feedback, and coaching
Students will be given assignments to be completed between classes to help them practice the skills being taught in the course. It is recommended that employers follow up with students following the course to review what they’ve learned and to discuss details that pertain specifically to your vineyard.

Wage & Hour Compliance & MSPA Changing Requirements: November 5
This training will provide critical information and updates on federal and state regulations covering agricultural worker wage and hour requirements and federal Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA) requirements. Subject matter will include proper timekeeping, rest and meal periods, paid sick leave (including COVID requirements), overtime, piece-rate work and non-productive time, providing tools and equipment, federal registration, and worker transportation. Lupe Sandoval will instruct this course from 10:00 AM to noon via Zoom.

Guadalupe (Lupe) Sandoval is the founder and executive director of the California Farm Labor Contractor Association.
Mr. Sandoval was born to Mexican immigrant parents and into a life of seasonal farm work. For over 30 years, Mr. Sandoval has been a consultant and trainer for farmworkers, agricultural supervisors, and agricultural employers in his work for non-profit community clinics, UC Davis, USI Insurance, CFLCA, and his own consulting business. He has experience in human resources, is a certified OSHA trainer, and is an approved Instructor Trainer for WPS Pesticide Safety.
Lupe has represented CFLCA on the Agricultural Labor Relations Board’s Labor-Management Committee; on stakeholder committees for Cal OSHA regulations; and on the external advisory committees at the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety at UC Davis, and the Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program.
